Idolian Strikes Again: USB Keyboard and Tab Cover

After using the Idolian Tablet Cover which comes with a USB keyboard, it can be safely termed as a very practical accessory to keep with a tablet. Google Nexus 7 will also launch a much cheaper cover with the same features. Amazon also provides similar tablet covers with keyboard cases for just $10. Of all, Idolian Tablet cover is perhaps the most expensive as it comes for $25.

The Idolian Cover is average in quality, but it can last for a longer period of time and is designed quite well. Made of synthetic material, it provides three tabs to hold the tab. The front has a magnet to keep the tablet in place and the back supports a prop which can be set to make it into a mini laptop. The Prop option is great for typing and also for watching movies or videos. For reading on a desk or table, the prop can be a true facilitator.

The keyboard case comes with a mini USB connector along with a stylus. The stylus is almost useless as it doesn’t work on capacitive touch screens which are quite in vogue nowadays.

This keyboard case is not specific to any particular tablet. Any 7” tablet which has a USB port and a connector can fit perfectly the Idolian Tablet Cover. There are options of different case and USB connector sizes, and an adapter can be used to connect the tablet with the keyboard.

The major drawback is perhaps its unnecessary thickness which leaves a space of 3/8 inch between keyboard and the tablet when closed.

The typing is not very easy on the attached keyboard but it is much better than on-screen typing,  especially for longer periods. It is more convenient than on-screen keyboard as we can see what we are typing, that being a problem with on-screen keyboard that take up to half the screen space.

But no one would really like to type a whole term paper or report on this keyboard. If someone has smaller fingers, it might just work.

Android has provided a very impressive setup for external keyboards. Through those, typists can use short key options for on-screen changes, like the spacebar for scrolling the page or the escape button to go to home screen.

Those who are planning to get one of these cover cases should make sure that their tablet offers an option for external keyboard connection. The box will tell you whether your tablet has a USB port or USB OTG or not. Next, they should make sure they get the USB connector which is in sync with the tablet. Most of the Amazon keyboard cases do not show clear details they must hunt for information on the internet, by reading reviews or exploring website photos. If by mistake a wrong case is bought, the USB adapters can always be used, but that will increase the clutter of wires around the work space.
