High technology has always been a “thing” of Western Asia and today is no different. Asia, please welcome the new Motorola ET1, the enterprise tablet that will enable business people from the Far East to carry around their PC shrunk into a 7 inch display device. Designed to resist in harsh environments, the Motorola ET1 is equipped with the customary Gorilla Glass which protects the display and as it can be used in industrial sites, the ET1 renders a strong and resistant design. Not to be understood it looks bad because strength was stressed more on this model; on the contrary, it looks slick and very business-like.
To judge this tablet by its cover would be fair enough, since it looks like there’s something valuable inside, and there really is. Motorola has added some interesting pieces of software on this device, which transforms the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS operated ET1 into a trusted little business helper.
When talking about hardware, the device is the proud owner of a barcode scanner and a magnetic stripe reader, features that are highly necessary for the targeted audience of the ET1. Furthermore, Motorola folks have added a feature that allows the use of swappable battery packs to increase the operating life, an important issue for the Asian target market.
The 7 inch display embraces a 1024 x 600 pixel capacitive touchscreen with two cameras, on the device’s front and back, the latter developing a 8 megapixel resolution. Inside the slick appearance, there is an OMAP4 dual core processor of 1GHz x2+ DSP that works along 1 GB RAM and a storage space of 4 GB for the carrier. The microSD cards can increase that memory up to 32 GB.
The new ET1 is equipped with 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and as far as USB goes, both a 2.0 host connector and a micro USB are available, plus a HDMI port. The thing that really makes the ET1 stand out in terms of connectivity is the 4620 mAH rechargeable, smart Li-Ion removable battery.
In terms of software, Motorola has added a few business applications that will come in handy to the Asian busy industrialists as well, including a Mobile point of sale (mPOS), Assisted selling, Manager electronic dashboards, Planogram management and compliance along with the Item locator app. To enhance security, the ET1 features apps that include instant provisioning for employees depending on their access rights, a control and monitor app and a password protected sharing feature.
Phey Teck Moh, the Corporate Vice President of Motorola Solutions Asia Pacific made the following statement: “The ET1 will give enterprise users the familiar experience of a consumer tablet in a sleek package, with all the enterprise must-haves such as applications, durability, security, device management whether they are from retail, logistics, supply-chain, healthcare or other industry segments.”
Another juicy detail that makes the ET1 a favorite business tablet is that it can be customized according to the business’ needs and furthermore, a back-up battery holds the data from the RAM for 15 minutes, in the case of an inconvenience.
The price of the wonder tablet for your business is not yet officially decided, although some hushed voices whisper that when bought in high volumes, the price for one Motorola ET1 might be as low as $100 or even less.
Considering this amazing price and the software it has inside, the ET1 will most probably be a hit among Asian business folks as it has been in the Americas and Europe. It will provide a pleasant experience, combining durability, brainpower and its user friendly demeanor.
