Review: BeBook Pure eBook Reader

The Bebook brand was taken over by Bas Group in January after Endless Ideas went bankrupt. BeBook Pure is the first venture by this company to hit the market of lower end ebook readers. With a decent price and a design targeted for friendly use, let us see how BeBook Pure competes on the market:

Hardware:

The 6 inch device has a Vizplex e-ink screen with the resolution of 600X800 ppi. The screen has been designed in a portrait mode and for reading under direct sunlight.

It is one of the thinnest and lightest ebook readers to enter the market, weighing only 188 grams, making it quite appropriate for travelling and long session reading. Also, this reader has been designed with a tactical placement of buttons on the bottom to access key features. There are two page turn buttons which make it easier to use than the regular touchscreen tapping to turn the pages.

The battery can live up to 2 months or 12,000 page turns, which is another plus for the travelers. The battery is recharged via a Micro USB adapter which is also used to transfer data to and from the device. It has up to 4 GB of internal memory which is expandable via MicroSD card.

BEBOOK PURE 300x245 Review: BeBook Pure eBook Reader

BEBOOK PURE

Software:

The device is powered by a Linux based operating system and shows off excellent processing speed. The software is designed specifically for new users, with highly simplified options, without any confusing details.

Home screen tells you the recently added books, recently read books, page you were reading on a particular book and lists the ebook formats.

Main options screen is also very simplified with just 9 options displayed in large sized neat boxes. Main library shelf keeps all the books and displays the titles, authors and book formats. Books can be sorted with ebook covers, author name, recently added or title through settings menu.

The photo quality on the reader is very crisp and clear. JEPG and GIF files can be loaded in the photo gallery through Micro USB as there aren’t any photos loaded in the device by default.

Reading Experience:

The BeBook Pure is truly a pure ebook reader that comes only for reading purposes. It is pre-loaded with only a few books and has no Wi-Fi connectivity to tap the online ebook stores. The books can be purchased from the internet and bookstores like Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Smashwords and others in EPUB format to load onto the device via cable. The reader is also compatible with Adobe Digital Editions.

The reading experience is probably the best of hundreds of ebook readers. The page turns are super quick and manual buttons are efficient. There are lots of customization options like adjustable margins, changeable fonts and sizes, bookmarks and many others for a completely convenient reading.

Recommendations:

The BeBook Pure is a perfect companion for new users who have never had this kind of device before. It is very user-friendly and easily navigable.

It is also an affordable option as a backup reader to take on vacations and public places without any fear of breaking or losing.
